This morning at 7:03 a.m. my phone buzzed:
“Walk started. Luna is happy. Temperature -6 °C. Poop count: 1 (bag disposed).”
I rolled over and went back to sleep.
The Boston Dynamics Spot (new consumer “Spot Scout” edition, $2,499/month lease) had:
- Let itself out the dog door
- Clipped Luna’s leash with its own arm
- Walked our usual 2.1 km loop
- Stopped at the coffee shop (barista now recognizes Spot and hands over a puppuccino)
- Came home, unclipped leash, wiped paws, refilled water bowl
Luna came upstairs, jumped on the bed, and looked at me like
“Dad, why did you even bother getting up last year?”
Spot Scout is now in 18,000 homes.
Waitlist: 94,000.
I no longer know if I own a dog or if the dog owns a robot butler.
Either way, I’m never walking in -10 °C again.
(Confess: who else is leasing Spot just so their dog stops judging them?)
