Dad hasn’t been on the boat since his stroke last year.
Couldn’t cast, couldn’t reel, couldn’t even hold the pole steady.

This morning the Spot Scout (Boston Dynamics consumer version) carried the tackle box down the dock, helped Dad into the chair, and spent four hours doing everything else:

  • Cast his favorite lure 60 feet (perfect every time)
  • Detected bites instantly and reeled in three largemouth bass
  • Unhooked them gently and dropped them in the live well
  • Took selfies with Dad holding each fish so he could brag to the group chat

When a 5-pounder fought hard, Spot braced itself against the railing and said in Dad’s own recorded voice (from old videos):
“Easy, girl… we got all day.”

Dad teared up, laughed, and said:
“Best fishing partner I ever had. Never complains about the bait.”

On the way home Spot cleaned the fish, filleted them perfectly, and vacuum-sealed the filets.

Dad just texted me:
“Tell the robot he’s invited every Saturday from now on.”

Some things are bigger than technology.

(If your robot just gave someone their hobby back, show me. I’m crying on a Friday.)
